Douglas Locklin (he/him) was born in New York but has lived in Finland since 2018. He established The Long Way, an education and advisory service for non-traditional entrepreneurs using business tools to address societal needs. Initially serving refugees and immigrants in the Nordic region of Europe, he soon diversified his offerings to provide professional development and curriculum co-creation globally, emphasizing 21st century skills and digital social entrepreneurship.
At the Long Way, we don’t promise shortcuts but we do promise to be on your side for the whole journey. Take the Long Way to build community for the long haul.
The Long Way is a transnational group of entrepreneurially-minded people organizing a purposeful, values-based Platform Cooperative. Share your diverse skill sets with the ventures you choose. Anyone can join, anyone can propose and start a venture. The “wisdom of crowds” will drive support to those ideas the community believes will provide the most benefit or have the best chance of success.
Each venture may choose its own form of business organization and capitalization model. You might combine aspects of time banking and equity sharing as outlined in Slicing Pie. We encourage cooperative, steward ownership, and public benefit corporations. We will collaborate to develop shared values in a founding purpose statement. Take the long way with us!
